What are Packaging Innovation Surgeries?
The surgeries provide an opportunity for managers with brand, packaging and processing responsibilities to meet with a panel of qualified packaging professionals to discuss opportunities for packaging improvements to support commercial growth.
The surgeries are designed to help companies in the food and drink sector within the Yorkshire region to develop packaging innovation strategies that will contribute to increased sales and boost employment. Working with you to identify where innovation can be most effective and productive they will offer insight, identify problems and opportunities and most importantly, deliver ideas.
Who is offering the services?
A multidisciplinary panel of packaging designers, technologists, food processing automation engineers and business support affiliated with Design Futures, a Center for Industrial Collaboration, hosted at Sheffield Hallam University.
The panel has expertise and experience in:
- Structural and graphic packaging design
- Retail and consumer research
- Materials innovation
- Processing automation
How does a surgery work?
Following initial assessment of your packaging issues, you will meet with our panel to discuss relevant innovation and development opportunities. During the 2 hour surgery you will receive practical advice and packaging insight to stimulate the innovation process. This will be followed up by a written report to help you implement the ideas.

What do they cost?
The surgeries are subsidised as part of the Appetizing Innovation programme supported by Yorkshire Forward. Each company will be asked for a total contribution of £295 for up to four delegates to attend a 2 hour surgery.
